Checklists
Every flight:
- Location - Check surrounding area for prop/pulley hazards.
- Frame & Prop Guard - Check frame for cracks, loose bolts/nuts,
loose or broken lines.
- Harness - Check all belts, material for tears, worn or burnt parts
of harness.
- Propeller - Check for cracks, chips in blades; sufficient prop and
guard clearance; loose or missing prop bolts/nuts.
- Gas tank - Remove cap. Check inside/outside for cracks, dirt or
deposits; check bolts under tank and clearance from engine on top. Verify
fuel level.
- Crankshaft - Turn prop slowly, listen for compression, check for
"grinding metal" sound.
- Reduction unit - Check for loose bolts, cracks in support brackets.
- Reduction belt - Check for proper tracking, belt squarely in pulley
track. Check for worn spots on belt.
- Crankcase - Check for cracks, oil leaks.
- Cylinder head - Check for cracks, oil leaks.
- Spark plug - Check color of plug, look for carbon deposits.
- Throttle lever - Level moves freely, cable moves and returns.
- Kill switch - Button depresses and returns.
- Recoil rope - Check for wear, tears or frayed places; rope extends
and returns automatically.
- Starter motor - Pinion gear engages and returns.
- Wiring - Check for broken wires, loose connections.
- Battery - Check for loose terminals, heat bubbles, corrosion, etc.
- Carburetor - Check idling, mid-range and full power acceleration.
- Muffler - Check for cracks, loose band or bolts.
Every 5 hours:
- Spark plug - Check color of plug, look for carbon deposits, check
gar clearance .6mm (.5mm?)
Every 10 hours:
- Air cleaner - Remove and wipe clean. If excessively dirty clean
with soap and water.
- Fuel filter - Remove from gas tank and clean with wire brush, blow
with compressed air.
- Air funnel - Wipe with cloth, check for cracks.
- Muffler - Check for cracks, loose band or bolts; run finger inside
exhaust pipe. Should be oily.
Every 50 hours:
- Compression - Compression reading should be...?
- Piston rings - Remove muffler, visual check of rings for broken
areas.
- Cylinder wall - Check for burns near exhaust port, sides of wall.
